(Even if there’s no “big reason”)
I know you’re asking yourself, “why should I take photos every year?” so let’s talk about it. Let’s talk about the in-between moments — the ones that don’t always get the spotlight.
Not a birthday. Not an anniversary. Not a graduation or a holiday.
Just… right now. This season. This version of you.
I know life gets busy. And it’s easy to put off photos because there’s “nothing special” happening. But hear me out — what if right now is the special part?
Here are five reasons I think everyone deserves updated photos every year — no milestone required:
1. You’ve Grown — Even If You Don’t Notice It Yet
Every year brings something new. A little more laughter, a few more stories, maybe a different haircut or new season of life. Photos help us see the growth we don’t always feel in the moment.
2. Your People Deserve to Be Remembered Just Like This
The way your child squishes their nose when they laugh. The way you and your partner look at each other when you’re not posing. The inside jokes. The way you hold hands without thinking. These things matter.
3. Time Moves Fast — And Photos Slow It Down
You blink, and the season you’re in has changed. But when you have photos, you get to hold onto little pieces of it. That’s magic. That’s why I do this.
4. You Deserve to Be Seen in This Chapter
Not when you lose weight. Not when you finally feel “put together.”
Now. Just as you are. Your life doesn’t have to look Pinterest-perfect to be worth documenting. You’re allowed to take up space in front of the camera — mess, beauty, and all.
5. Photos Make Memories Last Longer
Someday, you’ll look back at these photos and remember exactly how it felt. The warmth. The connection. The little details. That’s the gift you’re giving your future self — and the people who love you.
So yes, take the photos.
Not just once every five years.
Take them because this life you’re living right now?
It’s already worth remembering.
