Choosing the perfect spot for your photo session can feel like a big decision — but don’t worry, I’ve got you! After photographing all around Abilene over the years, I’ve found a handful of tried-and-true locations that never disappoint. Whether you’re going for warm, glowy light or something a little more rustic and adventurous, these spots offer beautiful backdrops for all kinds of sessions — families, seniors, couples, you name it.

Here are my top 5 favorite locations for photos in and around Abilene, TX:

1. Field in Buffalo Gap

This field will always be special to me — it’s where I did my very first photo session, and it quickly became a favorite for so many of my clients. There’s something peaceful and nostalgic about it, like it holds a hundred quiet stories. The space is split into two areas: one side is lined with beautiful trees (perfect for soft, shaded light), and the other opens up to a wide field with a gorgeous hill in the background. It gives us so much variety in one spot, and the views never disappoint.

Best for: families, maternity sessions, seniors, and anyone wanting open skies and nature.

2. The Field at The Barn At Cliff Springs

You’ve probably heard of this spot as a wedding venue, but it’s also an amazing location for photo sessions. With wide-open fields and the bluffs up close in the background, it’s absolutely stunning — especially at golden hour. One of my favorite areas is the Upper 80, and there’s another beautiful field right by the white barn, which is currently being renovated. Once it’s finished, it’ll be another dreamy photo spot!

Best for: couples, families, styled shoots, and sessions with a Western or vintage vibe.

3. Swenson House Garden

Looking for something a little more colorful? Swenson Garden has beautiful florals, walking paths, wooden arches, a swing, and greenery galore. It’s well-maintained and offers lots of variety within one location, so we can move around and get different looks all in one session.

Best for: springtime portraits, seniors, family sessions, and anyone who loves a little bloom.

4. Cedar Creek Waterway

This newly updated walking trail is such a fun and underrated spot for photos! It has everything — lush greenery, winding trails, and a peaceful river running through it. In the fall, a few trees even change color, adding a beautiful pop of warmth. Whether you’re planning a family session, senior portraits, or a couples shoot, this location works for just about anything.

Best for: adventurous couples, older kids, seniors, and anyone wanting a unique backdrop.

5. Field Behind The Old Firehouse Fitness on Buffalo Gap Road

This spot is definitely a hidden gem — and one of my absolute favorite places to shoot. Tucked right behind the Firehouse Fitness building, it has tall grass, lots of open space to roam, and a cozy little nook with trees that photographs beautifully. It’s perfect for golden hour and has such a peaceful, natural vibe. Just a heads-up: the tall grass sometimes gets mowed, so it can vary depending on the season — but it’s always a gorgeous spot either way.

Best for: golden hour sessions, seniors, couples, families who love that soft, natural vibe.

Each of these locations brings something special, and I always help my clients pick the spot that fits their style and story best. Still not sure which one’s right for you? Reach out, and I’ll help you choose — or we can dream up something totally new together.
